In a move to further enhance and strengthen the honors curriculum at University of the Sciences, Stephen Moelter, PhD, has been named director of the USciences Honors Program. Dr. Moelter is no stranger to the University’s Honors Program, as he began his tenure as chair of the faculty senate honors program committee in November 2013, and has been instrumental in developing the framework for a revised Honors Program.
“Based on his previous work with students, faculty, and staff, I am confident that Dr. Moelter will help strengthen the program for our current honors scholars, and lead the program in the next phase of its continuing evolution,” said Heidi M. Anderson, PhD, provost and vice president for academic affairs.
Beginning in fall 2015, a redesigned program will go beyond coursework and service projects, by integrating study abroad experiences and enhanced research projects. Honors students will complete a senior research thesis in order to be recognized as an honors scholar at graduation. Although final details are still in development, the USciences Honors Program will remain highly competitive.
Honors students will also continue to enjoy the benefits of the program, including priority registration for classes, as well as have the option to live in special on-campus housing. Dr. Moelter believes the redesigned Honors Program will take USciences students who are fortunate enough to be accepted into the program to a whole new level of leadership preparation.
“It’s my hope that our honor students will leave USciences prepared to apply their critical thinking, integrative, and leadership skills within real-world contexts," he said.
In addition to his new role, Dr. Moelter will maintain his position as director of the undergraduate program in psychology at USciences, and continue teaching psychology courses. Click here for more information regarding the Honors Program.
